Spectrum Super Star August 2019
Congratulations to our Spectrum Super Star for August, Don Giacomini, “the Library Guy”!
Spectrum loves having Gwinnett County Library supporting our work and we have been so fortunate to have Don, “the Library guy”, visiting our summer camps every week this summer, reading stories with such great dramatic flair, literally bringing them to life for our kids! Don is also great to visit our children’s social skills groups during our monthly meetings during the school year as well. Everybody loves Don! Congratulations, Don, our Spectrum Super Star, for making a difference for individuals impacted by autism in our community.
Don says “Through my role as a Youth Services Specialist at the Gwinnett County Public Library, I’ve had the privilege of working with Spectrum for over three years. What started as a simple meeting with Claire has turned into a slew of unique programs and personal relationships. Spectrum has helped both myself and the library better prepare to serve individuals with special needs by helping coordinate staff training sessions, consulting on programs and resources, and by simply spreading the word on what we have to offer. We’re so grateful to have been welcomed so warmly to the Spectrum community and I hope the partnership lasts long into the future.
I just personally wrapped up another summer of weekly visits to the Spectrum camp and I can’t tell you how wonderful it felt to walk up and be greeted by excited screams of ‘It’s the Library Guy!’ After all these years, I know so many of the kids by name. It’s not all that uncommon for me to meet a parent at a school or elsewhere and subsequently learn that, although I had never previously met them, I’ve known their child for many years through my visits to Spectrum. These relationships are what make my job so worthwhile and I thank Spectrum for helping me to make those connections. As I told all the campers at my last visit, I hope to see you all at the library soon!”
