Spectrum Super Star October 2025

Congratulations to our October star of the month, Maury Ingram!

Maury Ingram - Star Of The Month October 2025

Not only did Maury volunteer 40 hours of his time but UP Entertainment donated $2000 to Spectrum after his volunteer service was completed! We love recognizing Maury and UP Entertainment for making a difference for individuals and families impacted by autism, helping us do some uplifting of the families we serve!

Here is what Maury said about his experience:
"I work for a great company called UP Entertainment. Last year we celebrated our 20th anniversary as the destination for uplifting entertainment for passionate and diverse audiences across the leading cable, satellite & streaming platforms. Our core purpose and motto is to “Uplift Someone.” We believe quality entertainment, with uplifting and inspiring stories, has the power to positively impact hearts and change our world.

At UP Entertainment, they offer all employees a Service Leave Program, which is a great opportunity for their employees to volunteer their time to help others. It provides a two-week leave from the office, providing what they hope will be a life-changing experience through the spirit of giving back—by donating their time to charities, as well as additional time to travel or spend time with friends and family.

I researched many volunteering opportunities in the Atlanta area. I was looking for somewhere where I thought my time could make a difference and a place that seemed genuinely interested in my help. I was surprised that many organizations were only looking for volunteers that fit their schedule and not mine.

In recent years I have come to learn more about autism and found it very fascinating. I remember hearing the quote, “If you have met one person with autism, you have met one person with autism.” This was emphasizing that each person with autism has unique experiences, challenges, and strengths—and that there is no one-size-fits-all definition of someone on the spectrum. I decided to look into opportunities where maybe I could spend my time with a nonprofit dealing with autism. This was when I found out about Spectrum Autism Support Group. I called and realized that I found just the right fit for me. They couldn’t have been any nicer to me and seemed so eager to discuss the opportunities I could provide for them. The executive director, Claire Dees, made it clear that they could work around my schedule and supplied different options of things I could do to help their cause.

My 40 hours of volunteer work there was very rewarding, as I was able to help in many areas within their facility and help prepare for one of their biggest yearly events. I was also fortunate enough to spend some time in person observing how they help kids who are on the spectrum find more ways to fulfill their lives. My time there was very well spent, and I hope I was able to “uplift” someone in the process.

Thank you, Spectrum, for a rewarding experience!"

We are so grateful for his support. He is making a difference! Spectrum welcomes volunteers and students who want to add to their résumé and/or earn service hours for classes. Contact Claire Dees at claire@Spectrumautism.org if you are interested in volunteering.
