Spectrum Super Stars November 2024
Congratulations to our November stars of the month!
We thank our Spectrum stars of the month for November, Eddie Chen, Toluwani Olasupo-Akinola, and David Padilla Belgiovane, as interns have all helped with monthly support group meetings, been peer mentors for our teen and adult social clubs, have helped with fundraising events, researched grants, created videos, and so much more.
Here is how each of them reflected on their time at Spectrum Autism Support Group:
Eddie Chen said:
“Reflecting on my time with Spectrum, I realize how much it has shaped my outlook on community and inclusivity. Being involved with Spectrum has taught me the importance of creating a welcoming environment and has also shown me the powerful effect that kindness and understanding can have on individuals. Watching participants engage and feel accepted at each event has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful to be part of such an impactful organization. Thanks to the guidance of mentors like Mrs. Dees, I feel more motivated than ever to contribute meaningfully to my community and make a lasting difference.”
Toluwani Olasupo-Akinola said:
“Volunteering at Spectrum has been an incredible experience. When I chose to take up this internship, it was to gain experience working with a demographic I hadn’t had much interaction with and to improve my communication skills. However, this experience has led to so much more for me and opened my eyes to the joy that comes from helping others. From the kind staff to the engaging events, I am very glad I’ve been able to contribute to this community.”
David Padilla Belgiovane said:
“Words cannot express my gratitude toward Spectrum and the opportunities offered. My goal as an intern of connecting with my community and ensuring that everyone, regardless of condition, feels included and able to express themselves freely has been achieved thanks to the various events hosted by Spectrum. The kind staff, parents, and attendees have made me feel included, too, Mrs. Dees being no exception. I plan to keep volunteering and contributing to my community in the future, and Spectrum has shown me just how much of a difference I can make.”
We thank Eddie, Toluwani, and David for making a difference and being such great inspirations to others. Spectrum welcomes volunteers and students who want to add to their résumé and/or earn service hours for classes. Contact Claire Dees at claire@Spectrumautism.org if you are interested in volunteering.
