Spectrum Super Stars September 2024

We thank our Spectrum stars of the month for September, Wilma and Casey Wilson, who volunteer faithfully every year at our Spectrum family camp. See what they have to say about why they love volunteering with our Spectrum families. They are true super stars!

"We do this because every kid deserves the chance to experience life beyond walls—to be outside in the fresh air, surrounded by trees, lakes, birds, fish, turtles, sunshine, and moonlight.

At camp, the kids get to fish (where everyone catches one and sometimes a monster catfish), ride real horses, climb magnificent rock walls, shoot arrows like heroes, cruise around camp on bikes and captain two-person boats around the glasslike lake. In the evenings, we gather around a campfire to make s’mores, bang on drums in a drum circles, and play blacklight cosmic bowling. Every night, there’s a movie, and the popcorn machine keeps popping long past bedtime. The meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are restaurant-quality, the kind you’d expect from a place where the servers get big tips!

It’s a fantastic time for the parents too. Camp Twin Lakes is an amazing property, beautifully maintained by professional staff, while still preserving that old-fashioned, simple “wooden cabin” camp feel.

We do this because these kids are incredible, and it’s a joy to hang out with them and feel like kids again ourselves. We do this because, someday, when these kids grow up and need to lean on a happy memory, we want to be part of that memory—and we truly believe the kids make those kinds of memories every summer!
